SAN ANTONIO (December 20, 2023) — City Hall and most municipal offices in San Antonio will be closed from December 24, 2023, to January 1, 2024, in observance of the winter holidays. However, public safety and emergency services will remain in operation to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.

According to city officials, the San Antonio Police Department will have officers on duty throughout the holiday season, while the Fire and EMS personnel will also be available to respond to any emergencies that may arise. Animal Care Officers will also be on duty to address any animal-related concerns.

While most city services will be closed during this period, there are some exceptions. The 3-1-1 Call Center will be available on December 24 and December 26-31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 11 p.m. for urgent animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions. The Housing Assistance Hotline, however, will be closed, and the Homeless Outreach and Homeless Connections Hotline will operate with a limited crew from December 27-29.

Code Enforcement Officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage, and downtown parking visitors will enjoy free parking on December 25 and Monday, January 1 at City-operated parking lots, garages, and on-street meters.

In terms of waste collection and drop-off services, there will be some adjustments to the regular schedule. Collections for garbage, recycling, and organics on December 25 and January 1 will be moved to the following day, with Monday collections completed on Tuesday, Tuesday collections completed on Wednesday, and so on. Dead animal collection services will be available on December 24 and December 26-31, while curbside brush collection will not operate.

Various facilities and administrative offices will also have different schedules during the winter holidays. La Villita and Market Square will be open from December 26-31 but closed on December 25 and January 1. San Antonio Public Library locations, including the Central Library, will be open from December 27-30 but closed from December 24-26 and January 1.

The Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be open on December 24 and December 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with regular hours on weekdays and weekends. However, it will be closed on December 25 and January 1. Other facilities such as the Alamodome box office, Spanish Governor's Palace, and Centro de Artes Gallery will also have specific opening and closing dates during the holiday season.

While many city facilities and administrative offices will be closed, there are still some that will remain open. City parks and trails will be accessible to the public, and Municipal Court magistration services and the SAPD's detention center will continue to operate.

It is important for residents to take note of these changes in city services and plan accordingly. The city of San Antonio encourages everyone to enjoy the winter holidays while also ensuring their safety and well-being.
