City Council Approves Naming of Rosedale Park Pavilion in Honor of Boxer Robert Quiroga

SAN ANTONIO (June 20, 2024) — Today, City Council unanimously approved naming Pavilion 2 of Rosedale Park after San Antonio’s legendary boxer, Robert “Pikin” Quiroga.

The Quiroga family responded, "Thank you to the Mayor and entire City Council for approving the naming of the pavilion to the Robert Quiroga Pavilion. We are honored and humbled. The legend lives on because of you. Special thanks to Councilmember Teri Castillo for spearheading this initiative."

The proposed name came from Councilmember Castillo after learning from constituents about the desire to commemorate Quiroga’s legacy. "Today City Council came together to properly commemorate the legacy of Robert Quiroga," she said. "Adding his name to Rosedale Park will serve as a reminder that San Antonio and District 5 is full of champions."

Robert Quiroga was a graduate of Edgewood Independent School District’s Memorial High School and a beloved figure in District 5. He was the first World Super Flyweight Champion from the United States and successfully defended the IBF Jr. Bantamweight Championship five times from 1990 to 1993.
