Students from several schools in south San Antonio are gearing up to witness the total solar eclipse at the Frost Plaza in the Rock at La Cantera on April 8. This educational opportunity has been made possible through the collaboration of various community organizations and leaders, including District 4 Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia.

Dr. Rocha Garcia expressed the importance of providing students with a memorable and educational experience, stating, "When I first learned about the total solar eclipse, it was evident we had to get as many organizations involved to plan an incredible educational experience for students to understand the significance of this cosmic event."

Professor Chris Packham from the University of Texas at San Antonio highlighted the educational value of the eclipse, stating, "Explaining the eclipse offers an introduction to the ‘symphony of the spheres’ to an eager audience, by setting our place in this celestial masterpiece in context to our student ambassadors."

Students from various schools in the area, including Compass Rose, Lighthouse Public Schools, Harmony Public Schools, and others, will have the opportunity to view the eclipse and participate in STEM-related activities. The event will feature activation stations led by organizations such as Communities in Schools, SAMSAT, NASA Johnson Space Center, and more, offering students a chance to learn about coding, robotics, circuits, virtual reality, and space exploration.

The collaboration of organizations such as SAMSAT, LCATS, and the Texas Cavaliers has made this hands-on learning experience possible. Frost San Antonio Region President Dan Geddes expressed his hopes for the students, stating, "My hope is the students are inspired to pursue STEM careers and become future Frost employees in fields like cybersecurity, data analytics, or coding."

This event underscores the commitment of the San Antonio community to invest in the education and development of its youth. Through collaborative efforts, students will have the opportunity to engage with STEM topics and witness a rare cosmic event, fostering a passion for learning and exploration.
