Enrollment at Medina Valley ISD schools increased by 15.3% compared to previous school year

There were 7,823 students enrolled in Medina Valley ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 15.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.7% of them were boys, and 48.3% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 62.9% of the Medina Valley ISD total enrollment.

Medina Valley ISD roughly covers schools within Medina County with its main office in Castroville.

Among the eight schools in Medina Valley ISD, Medina Valley High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,147 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
