A handful of Texas transit agencies will receive $75 million in infrastructure funding from the CARES Act to help meet the transportation needs of seniors and disabled residents.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, the Federal Transit Administration says when it receives the funding, distributions will then go to the Texas Department of Transportation. From there, the Texas Transportation Commission will send portions of the funding to 36 regional transit districts.
Sean Scott, director of Alamo Regional Transit, says funding will ensure that buses keep running to get residents where they need to go.
“What this really means,” Scott told the Express-News, “is that no one will miss their bus when they’re going to the food bank, or to see their doctor or to get groceries. Even in a pandemic, our folks will have seamless service with no interruption.”
