District 6 Councilmember Celebrates Grand Opening of Tezel Road Office
Published on May 23, 2024
SAN ANTONIO (May 23, 2024) – Councilmember Melissa Cabello Havrda was joined by the District 6 community and former District 6 Council members at the grand opening of the Tezel Road City Facility & Trailhead on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 6644 Tezel Rd. The 3,600-square-foot facility will serve as the new field office for District 6 staff to attend to the needs of constituents, with a dedicated community space for gatherings and events.
The event also marked the inauguration of a 1.8-mile multi-use hike and bike trail connecting to the Howard Peak Greenway Trails System. The Trailhead features a new public art installation titled “Bloom” by San Antonio artist Leticia Huerta.
"We’re thrilled this day has finally come," said Councilmember Havrda. "This field office has been a long time in the making and we’ve overcome many hurdles - the pandemic, supply chain issues, and rising costs. There have been several District 6 Council members who kept pressing to make this happen since the idea of a field office in this location was first discussed and while it was challenging, with years of collaboration and determination we got it done."
Key individuals instrumental in completing this project include State Senator Jose Menendez; State Representative Ray Lopez; former District 6 Councilmember Greg Brockhouse; the City of San Antonio Public Works Department led by Razi Hosseini; and the Parks and Recreation Department led by Homer Garcia. When State Representative Lopez served on the City Council, he worked to secure land and funding that initiated development.
"One of my top priorities for this project was to make sure it included a space for community gatherings, and to ensure that it improves the lives of everyone in this community and this city,” added Councilmember Havrda.
