SAN ANTONIO (January 30, 2024) - The City of San Antonio and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Commission have made the decision not to reschedule the 2024 MLK March. Despite the initial plans for the march to take place on January 15, it had to be canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions. The safety of all participants was the primary concern.

In a statement, MLK Commission Chair Dwayne Robinson expressed gratitude to the San Antonio community for their unwavering support in commemorating the legacy of Dr. King. Robinson added, "We greatly appreciate the San Antonio community's desire to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King this year and every year. We will keep our community and partners informed about future opportunities to come together and do so."

The cancellation of the MLK March this year is a disappointment, as it has become a cherished tradition for many San Antonians. The march serves as a way for the community to honor and pay tribute to the iconic civil rights leader. However, the decision to prioritize the safety of all participants was necessary given the unpredictable weather conditions.

The MLK March, which typically draws thousands of participants, has been a symbol of unity and a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and justice. It is an event that brings people from diverse backgrounds together to celebrate the ideals that Dr. King stood for.

While the march will not be rescheduled for this year, the MLK Commission assures the community that they will be kept informed about future opportunities to come together and honor Dr. King's legacy. San Antonians can look forward to future events that will provide a platform for discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In conclusion, the 2024 MLK March in San Antonio will not be rescheduled due to safety concerns caused by inclement weather. The decision was made to prioritize the well-being of all participants. The MLK Commission expresses gratitude for the community's support and promises to keep them informed about future opportunities to commemorate Dr. King's legacy.
