District 4 Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia has expressed her hope that the construction of a new state-of-the-art hospital in southside San Antonio will address the health disparities and inequities in the area. Joined by University Health leaders and community partners at a groundbreaking ceremony, Councilwoman Garcia commended the efforts of George Hernandez, the University Health leadership team, and the Board of Managers for their commitment to investing in the community.

Councilwoman Garcia has long advocated for improved access to healthcare in the southside, especially for residents who face challenges due to a lack of reliable transportation or dependence on public transit. She believes that having hospitals in their neighborhoods is a matter of life and death for some. The closure of the Texas Vista Medical Center in District 4 further highlighted the urgent need for accessible healthcare facilities in the area.

While the City of San Antonio has increased the number of EMS units serving the southside, Councilwoman Garcia emphasizes the importance of working with local health systems and community partners to address the gaps in care. She is eager to develop a comprehensive plan of action that includes collaborative partnerships with entities dedicated to resolving the health disparities affecting residents in the southside.

As the groundbreaking ceremony marked a significant milestone in addressing the healthcare needs of the community, Councilwoman Garcia acknowledges the immediate challenges that residents will continue to face in accessing medical care. She highlights the urgency of providing immediate solutions, as some individuals may not live long enough to benefit from the completion of the new hospital.

The construction of the new hospital in southside San Antonio is a testament to the commitment of Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, University Health leaders, and community partners to address the health inequities in the area. Through collaborative efforts and a comprehensive plan of action, they aim to improve access to healthcare and ultimately enhance the well-being of the residents in District 4.
