San Antonio, Jan 14, 2024 - The City of San Antonio and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission have announced a one-hour delay for the Martin Luther King, Jr. March. The march will now begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning due to expected precipitation in the forecast.

The lineup for the march will start at 10 a.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy on Martin Luther King Drive. This delay is necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday through noon on Monday. The arctic cold front has caused a rapid drop in temperatures, prompting residents to take precautions when traveling and to dress appropriately for the extremely cold weather.

In light of the weather conditions, the City and the Commission are closely monitoring any changes and advising residents to stay updated through local news channels and the City's social media pages.

"Wear two to three or more layers, with at least one insulating layer. Wear an outer layer to keep out wind. Wear gloves and a warm hat. Wear warm, waterproof boots," advises the National Weather Service.

Residents can find additional resources for dealing with the cold weather, such as a list of places to stay warm and a Winter Preparedness Guide, at www.saoemprepare.com. For the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, visit weather.gov/ewx.

With the delay in place, the Martin Luther King, Jr. March will now commence at 11 a.m., allowing participants to gather at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy before embarking on the march to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions to the civil rights movement.

The City of San Antonio and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all residents, and urge everyone to take the necessary precautions while participating in the march or venturing outdoors during the cold weather conditions.
