The University of Texas at San Antonio will launch its long-awaited Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute, which represents an investment of over $100 million.
The university will take the lead on the institute, partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy. The goal of the arrangement is to analyze the use of technology in manufacturing and continue to find ways to give the country an edge in cybersecurity that is related to these machines and computers. In past years, U.S. manufacturers have been one of the top targets for those that would seek to infiltrate IT systems. Because of this, manufacturers and institutions around the country are looking to shore up the defense of companies around the country.
“CyManII leverages the unique research capabilities of the Idaho, Oak Ridge and Sandia National Laboratories as well as critical expertise across our partner cyber manufacturing ecosystem," UTSA President Taylor Eighmy said. "UTSA is proud and honored to partner with the DOE to advance cybersecurity in energy-efficient manufacturing for the nation.”
