The City of San Antonio will reallocate $3.5 million to small businesses that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reallocating the funds will help between 100 to 120 small businesses that are specifically focused on food and beverages, according to a press release.
“This is something that I have pushed for since the beginning of this pandemic and am so glad to see that our city management is taking a step in the right direction by realizing the needs of our small businesses, their owners, and their employees," City Council member Clayton Perry said. "San Antonio has the highest percentage of small business closures in Texas and one of the highest percentages in the nation."
According to a study done by Opportunity Insights, about 34% of small businesses in San Antonio were closed as of September 2020.
"Our small businesses need help now. I am grateful for this reallocation, but disappointed that it did not happen sooner," Perry added. "Let’s hope this shift in funds is not too late. It is our challenge as a City Council and city staff to continue pursuing funding in order to help our small businesses here in San Antonio.”
