A third round of CARES Act funding will be awarded to the cities of San Antonio and El Paso as well as Bexar County to help address costs from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“State and local governments every day are faced with tough decisions about how best to help their communities in fighting the Coronavirus,” Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) said in a press release. “These efforts are far from over, which is why I’m proud to announce more than $16 million in Community Development Block Grants for San Antonio, El Paso and Bexar County. This is the third round of funding, and it will allow our localities to maintain and improve their response efforts to combat the outbreak. We are not out of the woods with this pandemic, but, until then, relief like this will help us through.”
The two cities and Bexar County will be rewarded over $16 million in grants, with San Antonio receiving $10.2 million and El Paso receiving $4.1 million. Bexar County will receive $1.9 million in grants.
The grants will go to programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
