SOUTH SAN ANTONIO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: South San ISD Expected to Earn an "A" in Fiscal Accountability

Books

South San Antonio Independent School District issued the following announcement.

South San Antonio Independent School District officials announced that the district received a preliminary rating of “A” for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School FIRST financial accountability rating system at a Special Called Board Meeting Friday, Aug. 21.

The “Superior Achievement” rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of South San ISD’s financial management and reporting system.

“The district is incredibly proud of the hard work of Deputy Superintendent of Business & Operations Jeff Baum and his staff in ensuring excellent financial stewardship of public resources to best serve the students of our community,” said South San ISD Superintendent Marc Puig. “It is particularly impressive to have earned this rating during such a period of challenging fiscal constraints coming from the state.”

The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system. This is the first year South San ISD has achieved the highest rating.

“I am deeply grateful to our school board. Being visionary stewards of our taxpayers’ money is a top priority goal for the South San ISD board of trustees and this high rating confirms that our district’s financial management practices remain student-centered and strategically driven,” said Puig.

This is the 18th year of School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999 and amendments under House Bill 5, 83rd Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2013.
