Alamo Community College District issued the following announcement.

To provide students with all the information they need to prepare for the Fall semester, whether remote or face-to-face, the Alamo Colleges District has relased its Return to Learning Student and Family Guide for 2020-2021.

This comprehensive guide is part of the support the college faculty and staff, Board of Trustees and all of the Alamo Colleges Family are working to provide to help students succeed this fall. The guide covers all the preparations, programs and support that have been put in place to help students as they courageously return to fall, continuing on their path to the social and economic mobility that will empower them to better their lives and those of their families.

Highlights Of The Return To Learning Guide

Face Covering & Face Mask Procedure

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the use of cloth face coverings (“masks”) in public and at institutions of higher education, in particular, to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Governor of Texas, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio also advocate, and may require, the use of masks in public and group settings.

Students are required to wear masks on campus and upon entry to any campus building, and as required or encouraged in public settings.
Students are required to wear masks during their entire presence on campus, in all buildings, at indoor and outdoor common areas, going to and from buildings, and at outdoor events where people congregate.
Students at clinical sites must wear masks or respirators approved by CDC as required by the clinical site. This requirement may be stated in a class syllabus.
Students who do not wear masks will not be allowed to remain in any classroom, laboratory, or campus, unless they accept available masks furnished by the Alamo College District. A faculty member may enforce the mask requirement in the classroom and may report a non-compliant student to the Student Conduct officer for determination of any violation of the Student Code of Conduct, unless a legitimate reason exists for non-compliance with this procedure as determined by the Alamo College District.
As an alternative to complying with the mask requirement, a student may register before the beginning of the semester for online courses or be transferred to online learning when feasible, with the student’s agreement.

Face Coverings/Social Distancing Procedure

Status of On-Site Instruction

Fall 2020 classes will be delivered remotely with exceptions for career and technical courses and some arts and sciences courses that require face-to-face (F2F) learning. Starting August 24, until the Thanksgiving Break, the Alamo Colleges will deliver a minimal number of Face-to-Face courses will be delivered on campus to support student success for the following reasons:

Specialized accrediting agencies will not allow completely remotely classes in some programs
Hands-on skills cannot be assessed remotely
Practicums, labs, clinicals and internships are required by accrediting agencies to be F2F
Program cohorts and course sequence must be delivered F2F so that the next program cohort can start on time
Incompletes assigned to classes in the previous semester must be given a grade
To support equity, colleges will provide opportunities for student populations that demonstrate greater success in F2F environments
