As Hill Country hospitals prepare for never before seen patient numbers due to the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Greg Abbott has announced an executive order to back the health care industry.

Petersen Health CEO Coy Edmondson is all in, according to Daily Times. Edmondson wrote an open letter in response to Abbott’s executive order and vowed to partner with Schreiner University’s nursing school to help those who are graduating soon to receive adequate training to jump into the field as soon as possible.

“Additionally, we are tracking the retired nurses who are calling us and offering their assistance," Edmondson said. "All of this planning is critical for the health and safety of our local health experts, that it is more important to act early than to wait. This action is inevitable, and the sooner we take it the better chance we have of getting ahead of this.”

Of 4,669 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Texas, eight have been confirmed in Kendall County and three have been confirmed in Medina County. Boerne mayor Tim Handren is also hoping to flatten the curve of the coronavirus by closing all non-essential businesses.
