The Republican Party of Medina County is having its county convention Saturday, March 21 to introduce candidates and consider resolutions. 

The convention will begin at 1 p.m. It will take place at the Medina County Courthouse on 16th Street in Hondo. Registration will begin before the convention starts. 

The Medina County Republican Party will be supplying hand sanitizer and other health precautions at the event. The party said in a Facebook post that it doesn't want to exclude anyone from the convention, but wishes people to take health precautions due to the coronavirus. 

At the convention, Republican candidates will be introduced. Delegates and alternates will also be seated along with electing convention officers. State convention delegates will also be elected at the meeting. 

Candidates will adopt resolutions at the convention, which could potentially become part of the Republican Party national platform. 

Typically, the convention is held three Saturdays after the primary election in Texas unless that Saturday conflicts with Easter or Passover. If that is the case, the election code said that it can be moved to the fourth Saturday after the primary election. 

The current county chairman usually will serve as the county convention chairman, which is a temporary position. 

Committees can do some of the work for the county conventions, such as electing a nominations committee that will decide who will be the elected delegates for 2021's Republican convention. The nominations committee will also give a list of delegates and alternates that those at the convention will vote on. 

A resolutions committee can also be elected for the convention. This committee will consider resolutions and present them at the convention for them to be voted on. The convention may have other committees as well. 

A state convention will be held in May. Individuals do not have to attend the county convention in order to attend the state convention.
