Palo Alto College issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.
As Palo Alto College begins its spring semester, our students are diving in to their courses with anticipation of all they will learn and experience in the coming months.
An important aspect of the college experience is the opportunity to engage with fellow students outside of the classroom. By building relationships with others on campus, these students are more likely to return and complete their educational goals. Our student athletes are no exception.
Palo Alto College Athletics ramped up in fall 2019 with men's baseball, basketball, and soccer, and women's basketball, softball, and volleyball. Our student athletes are high-performing on and off the field; playing against highly competitive club teams from colleges and universities across Texas.
Their biggest win was their collective academic performance. A majority of Palo Alto College student athletes not only complete their courses at a higher rate than the average student population, but they are more likely to enroll in consecutive semesters to continue their higher education journey.
Our coaches and campus recreation staff place a special emphasis on making academics the main priority by mandating weekly tutoring and facilitating study sessions. The opportunity for these students to pursue their athletic passions will teach them valuable teamwork skills while also providing them with the long-term impact of obtaining a degree or certificate from Palo Alto College.
If you want to support these student athletes, we invite you to come cheer on our men's baseball team as they take on the University of Texas' Club Baseball team in a home game hosted at Southwest Legacy High School on Sunday, Feb. 2. It's a doubleheader with games, prizes, and entertainment between innings. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the first pitch will be thrown at 10 a.m.
