A new Ground Load Facility (GLF) and other improvement projects moved forward today for San Antonio International Airport (SAT). The City Council approved an ordinance Thursday allowing the Aviation Director to negotiate and execute a Design-Build services contract with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. for the GLF in Terminal A to construct additional gates to support SAT’s growing air service needs.
The San Antonio Youth Commission from the Department of Human Services and the Metropolitan Health District’s Project Worth Teen Ambassadors have worked with community partners to create TeensDaySA, a Summit for Learning Among Youth, to celebrate the brilliance, grit, and health of young people in San Antonio.
With summer just over a month away, the City of San Antonio invites the community to learn about summer job opportunities at the Parks and Recreation Summer Job Fair this Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Job Fair will be held at the Ramon V. More local minority- and woman-owned businesses have worked with the City of San Antonio through contracting opportunities. The City of San Antonio released a recently completed Disparity Study, which examined if local minority- and woman-owned businesses have equal access to City contracting opportunities and if the Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) program is effective. The study was completed by Colette Holt & Associates.
According to the National Weather Service a flood watch is in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday evening with a threat of wind gusts and hail. A possible widespread 3 to 6 inches of rainfall will occur along the I-35 corridor west to the Rio Grande from tonight through Saturday evening. The City of San Antonio has received zero findings on its annual external audit for the fifth year in a row, City Manager Erik Walsh announced at today’s City Council Meeting. Zero findings means that the City’s financial records are free from material misstatement and provide a true and fair view of the financial statements of the City. The City has invested in specific improvements over the years with the goal of excellence in our financial reporting.
On May 10 the City of San Antonio filed the condemnation petition on behalf of the General Land Office, signaling the next step in the process to acquire 516 E. Houston Street, the site of Moses Rose’s Hideout. The building location will be used to construct a world-class Visitors Center and Museum for the Alamo that will educate and illustrate the significance of the famous 1836 Battle and the Texas Revolution.
